Strive Dev will resume once we are comfortable with our Roblox status. We have not given up on Strive by any means. We are simply making the smartest move we can, which is to focus on Roblox right now. Have no fear, we will return to Strive.

What is Strive?

Strive is a realistic, single-player, first person wilderness survival game that takes place in a tropical setting. The player will have to explore their surroundings and harvest resources in order to craft weapons, tools, and shelter to survive the harsh environment.

But before I go on to talk about some of the basic features of the game, allow me to introduce myself and my partner. Ethan Witt and I are developing Strive on our own with the Unity 3D engine. Ethan has taken on the position as the lead programmer for Strive, while I [Gus Dubetz] manage the design aspect of the game. The project started July 1st, 2013, and has seen much progress since.

Strive is a realistic wilderness survival game. By that, I mean that the game will not include any fantasy elements such as mystical creatures, magical abilities, or extraordinary events. Seriously. We're tired of seeing survival games that makes nature look like it was genetically augmented. Now don't think that we're making a simulator here either. Strive will be realistic, but it won't require you to clip your character's fingernails.

The player must only monitor four major stats of their character. Hunger, Thirst, Temperature, and Fatigue. The declination of these stats can be caused by numerous sources, but can also be rejuvenated all the same. While these four stats will be the player's primary concern, their overall health must also be monitored.

Crafting is a big topic of discussion when someone mentions the word survival. Strive's crafting system is inherently simple, but allows for much detail. Crafting some items may require multiple raw materials, crafted materials, and tools to create. More information will be distributed about the crafting system in a later post.

Finally, the environment of Strive will feature a wide variety of useful plants, tame and dangerous animals, and varying terrain all generated in a procedural world.

Briefly, this is a rough description of what Strive will become as we continue our development. In future posts, we will describe the additions made to the game in depth. Stay tuned!

Thanks,
Gus

    1. Except without the dinosaurs, random tower defense, and human NPC's on every island. (For no apparent reason)

  3. Well, that answered my question of whether it will be a multi-player map. @Gus-Where is the Unity Engine site exactly?

  4. Can some islands(or parts of islands) would have more rough terrain? Rough terrain is more fun to explore.

    1. We plan to have the islands be randomly generated.

    1. Well it's single player so PvP would essentially be suicidal.

  6. Wait, it's single-player?! How about you make it multi-player where other people can help each other, although enough of the PvP. I played Apocalypse Rising enough times to be PvPed... >.> Oh call me Ano. I will post this name so you know who I am.

  8. A co-op version of this game would be BEAUTIFUL. I'm hoping someone can persuade you to make a co-op version eventually, if everything goes well with the Single Player.

    1. You know, There could be the option ot play Co-op, PvP, or singleplayer. that would give the player the choice of playing alone, having the help of friends, or fighting other Real Life players. For now though, I think making the game should be the main priority (And I'm pretty sure it is).

  10. will you include weapons like mining rocks and find blue prints around the map and crafting guns like rust or will it be like minecraft? or rust?

    1. Explain to me how you would simply find blueprints to a gun on an uninhabited island?

    2. You won't.

    3. Actually you can.
Military C-130 crashed in a random place on the island with military stuff in it, including blue prints.

    4. 9 out of 10 plane wrecks near islands crash in the ocean so... no.

    5. Keep in mind its a video game so 9 out of 10 can quickly change to 1 out of ten :)

    6. @Ernesto Torres: guns in a wilderness survival game... ho please! so useless and ridiculous

    7. Sounds to me like this is going to be a simulation game. You say it is not but it clearly is going to be. No co-op no PvP just solo survive until you die. Sounds like a simulator that just happens to let you craft things.

  11. it could b cool but there still is things that need added like paper from trees to make a blue print?

Whilst your waiting check out other cool games Like Begone.

    Recommendation to gusmanak:
When you finish your game, try putting it on wooglie, A unity game portal. From there you can put it on unity, Then Steam.
    Good luck
